Playing their final regular season match, the Cerritos College women's soccer team recorded their 17th consecutive shutout, as they recorded a 6-0 South Coast Conference South Division win over host Long Beach City College on Friday. The Falcons (20-0-0) completed their first unbeaten and untied regular season in school history, will find out on Tuesday where they will be seeded for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Cerritos, who has outscored their opponents this season, 124-1, will open the post-season at home next Saturday.
In the win over the Vikings (9-10-1, 5-3-0), the team scored three goals in each half, with the first three less than five minutes apart. Their first two goals in the second half came exactly two minutes apart.
The scoring started in the 27th minute when sophomore Gisselle Jimenez (Long Beach Millikan HS) sent a crossing pass across the middle to sophomore Serena Camacho (Los Osos HS/UC Irvine), who had worked her way in front the Long Beach goal. Camacho was able to control the ball and score her first of two goals in the match. That second goal came less than two minutes later when freshman Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS) brought the ball along the edge on the outside and after making the turn into the 18-yard box, found Camacho, who chipped the ball into the net.
Also scoring a pair of goals on the day was Jimenez, who picked up the third goal of the first half less than three minutes after the Falcons took a 2-0 lead. Freshman Maria Campos (Paramount HS) spotted Jimenez making a break and sent a through ball, which allowed Jimenez to finish the play with her fifth goal of the season.
The state's leading scorer, Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine), got in on the action in the second half with her state-leading 44th goal of the season, which also extends her school record total. Her goal was followed closely by Corrilo, who recorded her 15th tally of the year.
