Continuing to play shorthanded, the Cerritos College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Saddleback College, 7-2 on Thursday. The Falcons (1-1) will now host NCAA Division III Whittier College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Trailing 3-0 in team scoring after doubles, Cerritos earned their two team points in singles at the top of the ladder. Freshmen Petra Such (Gyula Illyés, Hungary) and Diviana Bravo (Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, Ecuador), who teamed up in doubles, both posted wins in singles play. The duo were defeated, 9-7 in a tight doubles match, and continued to play tough against the Gauchos (3-0).

Bravo pulled out a 7-5 win in her first set in the #2 singles match and then went on for a 6-1 straight set sweep. As for Such, she dropped the first set against Dominique Willette in the top singles match of the day, 3-6. But Such battled back for 6-0, 6-1 wins for the victory. Sophomore Mona Navalta (Norwalk HS) split the first two sets against Kristina Parks in the #4 singles match, 3-6, 6-2. In the third set, Navalta came up short, 3-6.
