Playing in their first match in eight days, the Cerritos College women's tennis team handed host Ventura College a 6-3 setback on Friday. The Falcons (7-3) will look for their second win in as many days when they travel to Santa Barbara City College for a 12:00 p.m. match on Saturday.

With Cerritos winning two of the three doubles matches, they entered singles play with an advantage. After the top four players on the ladder earned straight set wins, the Falcons sent the Pirates (4-7) to their fifth consecutive loss.

Freshman Petra Such (Gyula Illyés, Hungary) and Diviana Bravo (Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, Ecuador) accounted for three of the team points, with their singles wins and an 8-3 doubles victory. Such defeated Bailey Sindle, 6-2, 6-1 In the #1 singles match, while Bravo posted a 6-2, 6-3 win in her #2 singles match. Sophomore Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Elizabeth Aceves (Downey HS) accounted for the Falcons other team points with their collective victories.

In singles play, Pastor claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win in the #3 match, with Aceves earning a 6-4, 6-4 win. The two also handed Megan Fleming and Alyssa Powell an 8-2 doubles loss. The closest match of the day came in #6 singles play with freshman Mary Navalta (Norwalk HS) succumbing to a 1-6, 6-1, 4-10 score.
