Despite playing shorthanded, the Cerritos College women's tennis team posted a 6-3 win over visiting Rio Hondo College on Thursday in their South Coast Conference opener. The Falcons (5-2, 1-0) were playing without freshman Diviana Bravo (Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, Ecuador) who was injured in the team's match the day before. She is questionable for their non-conference match against visiting Glendale College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

With the absence of Bravo, the Falcons were forced to forfeit the #6 singles and #3 doubles match to the Roadrunners. Freshman Petra Such (Gyula Illyés, Hungary), who doubles with Bravo, played only singles and earned a 6-0, 6-3 win in the #1 position on the ladder. Sophomore Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS), who moved into the #2 spot, earned a strong 6-1, 6-0 win, as did sophomore Elizabeth Aceves (Downey HS) with a 6-2, 6-1 win. The duo also played in the #1 doubles match and recorded an 8-5 win.

Freshman Mary Navalta (Norwalk HS) was extended to three sets in singles and posted a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 win, while she teamed with sophomore Mona Navalta for an 8-6 doubles triumph. Mona Navalta (Norwalk HS) suffered a three-set loss in singles action.
