Playing a pair of games on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team posted wins in both contests. They opened with a 15-9 win over host Los Angeles Valley College and followed that with a 14-13 win against Cal Lutheran University. The Falcons (7-3) will now travel south this weekend for the San Diego Mesa Tournament, which sees them playing two games at Miramar College on Friday and then two more games at SD Mesa College on Saturday.

Cerritos vs. Los Angeles Valley: The Falcons dominated the early part of the game, as they took a 6-0 lead after the first eight minutes. It was an 11-3 lead by intermission, with most of damage coming from sophomore Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela) and freshman Angel Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela), who combined to account for 10 of the team's goals. The tandem finished with 13 goals, while Rojas also assisted on six goals, with the two chipping in for seven steals. LA Valley staged a late comeback, scoring six second half goals, including three unanswered goals in the final period. But by then, the Falcons had opened up a sizable lead, with a trio of goalies combining for 15 blocks. Sophomore Alfredo De La Mora (Bell Gardens HS) led the way with 10 blocks in the win.

Cerritos vs. Cal Lutheran University: In a much closer game, the Falcons secured their win with a goal from Jeffrey Park (Cerritos HS) with 1:17 remaining in the game after trailing, 13-12 with 1:48 left. De La Mora posted two of his 12 blocks in the game on the final two Kingsmen scoring attempts, while Rojas and Park each added three steals in the win. Once again, it was the offense by Moreno that led the team, as he scored a game-high seven goals, while Rojas chipped in with four scores. Sophomore Matthew Skinas (La Serna HS) contributed three assists and two steals for Cerritos. The Falcons maintained a three-goal lead they took into halftime and eventually led, 11-6 early in the fourth period. But CLU scored seven of the next eight goals for a brief 13-12 lead until the Falcon defense clamped down and the team produced the final two goals of the game.
