M. Water Polo: Team comes back to pick up win at tourney

On the second day of the Riverside City Tournament, the Cerritos College men's water polo team picked up a solid come from behind win after a loss to their rival. The Falcons (18-5) were handed a 13-8 loss to rival Long Beach City, but came back to defeat Northern California power Diablo Valley College, 16-11. The team will get a chance to take on LB City in two days, as they compete in their South Coast Conference match at 4:15 p.m. on Monday in Long Beach.

Cerritos vs. Long Beach City: It was a tight match for the first half, as the Falcons led, 3-2 after the first period, with the Vikings taking a 6-5 lead at intermission. Second half adjustments by LBCC netted them five goals in the third period, while Cerritos was hit by turnovers (15 in the game). It was an aggressive game from start to finish with 21 ejections called, while freshman Angel Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) drew six on his own. Sophomore Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosrio, Venezuela) led the team with three goals, while Rojas assisted in four of the tallies. Sophomore Alfredo De La Mora (Bell Gardens HS) posted eight blocks in goal.

Cerritos vs. Diablo Valley: The bad second half carried over into the start of the game against the Vikings, as they took a 5-0 lead against the Falcons. Cerritos scored three times before the end of the period and rode that momentum into the second period, where they picked up five more goals and took an 8-7 lead into the break. Rojas scored seven times against Diablo Valley and added five assists and three steals, while Moreno contributed four goals and drew six ejections. Freshman Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) accounted for two goals and three assists, with De La Mora making nine blocks and produced three steals.
