The Cerritos College men's water polo team scored a total of 37 goals in a pair of wins on Saturday at the San Diego Mesa Tournament. They opened with a 17-7 win over the host Olympians and finished the tournament with a 4-0 record after a 20-5 victory against Santa Monica College. The Falcons (11-3, 1-0) have now won nine games in a row and will open South Coast Conference play at 4:15 p.m. on Monday against host El Camino College.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: After the first quarter, the Falcons trailed, 3-2, but turned things around with a six-goal second quarter. They relied on the scoring of freshman Angel Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela), as well as the work of sophomore goalie Alfredo De La Mora (Bell Gardens HS), who recorded 12 blocks in the win. Rojas finished with a team-high five goals, along with three assists and seven steals, while the trio of Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela), Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) and Matthew Skinas (La Serna HS) all added three goals each in the victory. Moreno also posted three steals, while four players posted a pair of assists.

Cerritos vs. Santa Monica: Although it took a little while for the offense to get on track, the Falcon defense played strong from the outset and didn't allow the Corsairs a goal until the second quarter. By halftime, Cerritos led 7-1 and never looked back. Angel Rojas scored five more goals and added four steals, while De La Mora played in the field and produced four goals. Freshman Israel Rodriguez (Whittier HS) had a strong game on defense with six steals, with Jesus Rojas and freshman Jacob Graham (La Habra HS) each finishing with three assists. Moreno was aggressive on offense and drew three ejections, which produced two goals, with the team combining to draw seven ejections.
