In their first two games of the season, the Cerritos College softball team shut out both of their opponents. On Wednesday, the Falcons limited host Orange Coast College to just one run, but were unable to score any runs of their own and dropped a 1-0 decision. Weather permitting, the team will travel to Cypress College next Tuesday.

The Pirates (1-1) scored the game's lone run on a solo home run from Natalie Lowthers with one out off sophomore pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS). Fresh off tossing a no-hitter the day before, Carranza was able to work out of tough situations in five of the six innings in which she pitched, as Orange Coast advanced runners to second base in each of the innings.

Cerritos had limited scoring chances and were unable to cash in on them. In the top of the second inning, sophomore first baseman Nadia Landeros (Warren HS/Rio Hondo College) led off with a base hit and advanced to second base on a wild pitch with two outs. Sophomore designated player Celeste Carbajal (Mayfair HS) lined out to end the inning. With one out in the fourth inning, sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) doubled with one out, but was stranded when the next two batters couldn't advance her.

The team had another scoring chance in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) laced a one-out double and was also left on the bases. In the seventh inning, freshman outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Sophomore third baseman Natalie Basurto (Walnut HS) followed with a base hit. However, a fielder's choice cut down Fontela at third base and the team had runners at first and second when the final out was recorded.
