On Tuesday, the Cerritos College softball team opened their South Coast Conference schedule with an 8-3 loss to host Mt. San Antonio College. Originally scheduled to be played at Nancy Kelly Field, the game was moved to Walnut after it was deemed that the field at Cerritos was not in good playing condition. As a result, the March 19th game between the two teams will now be played at Cerritos. The Falcons (7-4, 0-1) will host Pasadena City College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in another conference game.

The team found themselves trailing 5-0 after the first inning and 6-0 through the first three innings. However, they cut their deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning when sophomore shortstop Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) clubbed a three-run home run. In the inning, freshman outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) and sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) each walked to lead off the inning. With one out, Manalo drove in all three runs with her second home run of the season.

They looked to add more to their run total in the inning when sophomore third baseman Natalie Basurto (Walnut HS) and sophomore designated player Celeste Carbajal (Mayfair HS) followed the round-tripper with singles. The bases were loaded with two outs after sophomore outfielder Jocelyn Doan (Walnut HS) was hit by a pitch. However, sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) popped up to end the threat.

The Mounties responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the stanza to take an 8-3 lead.

The Falcons had another good scoring opportunity in the top of the sixth inning when Basurto walked and moved to third base on a two-out double from freshman second baseman Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS). The threat ended when Doan struck out.
