On a day where Cerritos College sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) broke a school record, the team also advanced to the next round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. On Saturday, the #9-seeded Falcons (30-12) defeated #8-seeded Los Angeles Mission College, 8-1 and will now travel next weekend to take on #1-seeded Fullerton College. The sweep of the Eagles was the third season in a row that Cerritos eliminated LA Mission, while this is the second year in a row the team will take on the Hornets in the second round.

The Falcons reached the 30-win mark for the 15th time in school history and 12th time under head coach Kodee Murray.

Cerritos got on the board in the first inning, as Macias led the game off with a walk and stole her 48th base of the season to tie CaPree Williams, who accomplished her feat in 2008. Sophomore third baseman Natalie Basurto (Walnut HS) followed with an RBI double, while sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) smashed a two-out, two-run home run to put the Falcons in front, 3-0.

The offense would be enough for All-State pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS), who scattered six hits and tossed her 38th complete game, as she continues to move up the college's single-season record book. Carranza is now tied for the school record in starts (42), while she is also second in innings pitched (274 1/3), tied for second with 38 complete games, tied for fourth in wins (30) and tied for fifth in appearances with 42.

The Eagles scored their lone run in the bottom of the second inning and Carranza scattered three hits the remainder of the game.

Macias broke the school record in the top of the third inning, as the Falcons added another run. After leading off with a double, she stole third base with two outs to break the record and then scored on a double by Velazquez.

The Falcons put the game out of reach with a single run in the sixth and three more in the seventh inning. Velazquez, Friday's hero Celeste Carbajal (Mayfair HS) and freshman outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) all drove in runs in the seventh inning.

On the day, Velazquez went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a walk and four RBI, while Macias (2-for-3, walk, two runs, three SB) and Basurto (2-for-4, RBI) all had multiple-hit games.
