Originally scheduled to travel to El Camino College last Thursday for their South Coast Conference game, the team ended up meeting on Saturday at Nancy Kelly Field. The Cerritos College softball team surrendered five runs in the top of the first inning and went on to drop a 6-0 decision. The loss was the second in a row for the Falcons (10-6, 3-3) and the first time they were shutout two games in a row since March 9, 2012 in a double header against College of the Canyons. The team will play another rescheduled game on Monday for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game at Riverside City College.

El Camino (11-6, 4-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a walk and hit batter was followed by a one-out home run by Cerise Cervantes off sophomore pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS). An error kept the inning alive, which led to an RBI single, with the fifth run coming home on a double steal. On the play, Julianna Vasquez, who singled home the fourth run, took off for second base. Lily Lewis, who was on third base came home when the throw to the plate was late.

After the first inning, Carranza retired 14 of the next 16 batters before El Camino was able to push across another run in the sixth inning.

Offensively for the Falcons, they received a two-out walk to sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) and a single by sophomore Nadia Landeros (Warren HS/Rio Hondo College) to put a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the first inning. But both were stranded, which was also the case in the bottom of the second inning. Freshman designated player Natalie Fraijo (Charter Oak HS) drew a walk with one out, with sophomore outfielder Jocelyn Doan (Walnut HS) reaching base on a two-out single. The two  would be left on base after sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) flew out to end the inning.

Cerritos collected just four hits on the day.
