On Tuesday, the Cerritos College softball team slapped out 13 hits, while pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS) tossed a three-hitter in a 6-1 win over Ventura College at Nancy Kelly Field. The win improved the Falcons record to 4-3 and will travel to Grossmont College on Thursday for a 2:00 p.m. game.

After spotting the Pirates (0-9) a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Cerritos responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the stanza. Sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) led off with a single, stole second base and advanced to third on an error by shortstop Savanna Higgins, who let the ball roll away after receiving the throw at the bag. Freshman outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) drove in Macias with a base hit and then stole second base to get into scoring position. After a pair of groundouts, sophomore shortstop Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) drove in Fontela with a single.

Carranza (4-3), who allowed two hits in the top of the first inning, retired 12 of the next 13 batters before surrendering a two-out single in the fifth inning. After a fielding error by the Falcons, Carranza set down the final seven batters and finished the day with six strikeouts

The Falcons extended their lead to 6-1 with four runs in the third inning. Fontela led off with a single, followed by sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) reaching base on an error. With one out, consecutive singles by Manalo and sophomore third baseman Natalie Basurto (Walnut HS) drove in runs, while freshman designated player Natalie Fraijo (Charter Oak HS) plated two runs with a single.

Macias and Manalo each finished with three hits, while Fontela and Basurto each added a pair of hits.
