Hosting Compton College in a South Coast Conference game on Friday, the Cerritos College softball team scored in five of the six innings in which they hit and went on for a 7-3 win. The win by the Falcons improved their season record to 14-7, while they are now 6-4 in conference play. The team was scheduled to travel to Antelope Valley College for a doubleheader on Saturday, but was postponed due to the impending rain.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning, the Falcons were able to tie the game without the benefit of a hit. Sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) reached on an error to lead off the inning and then went to second on a stolen base. Walks to sophomore third baseman Natalie Basurto (Walnut HS) and sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) loaded the bases. Macias came home on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore first baseman Nadia Landeros (Warren HS/Rio Hondo College).

The added single runs in the second and third innings to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore designated player Celeste Carbajal (Mayfair HS) led off the second with a single and advanced to second when Compton outfielder Angelica Pinedo overran the ball. A wild pitch moved Carbajal to third base, while she came home on a sacrifice fly from freshman second baseman Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS). A pair of walks to lead off the third inning led to an RBI single from sophomore shortstop Marley Manalo (Walnut HS).

Sophomore pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS) found herself working out of situations in each inning, as the Tartars recorded 10 hits on the day. She left runners in scoring position in five of the innings to keep the Falcons in front and allowed her to win her 14th game of the season.

Cerritos added three more runs in the fourth inning, while they posted five of their nine hits on the day in that stanza. With a runner on first base, sophomore outfielder Jocelyn Doan (Walnut HS) dropped down a bunt for an infield single. Then, with two outs. Basurto singled in a run, followed by a two-run base hit from Velazquez. Macias drove in the team's final run with a two-out double in the fifth inning.
