W. Track: Team wins 10 events at Orange Coast Classic

On Friday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won 10 events to lead them to a first place team finish with 241.5 points at the Orange Coast Classic. The Falcons will now compete in the Occidental Invitational next Friday.

The big winners on the day were sophomore Destiny Talalemotu (Long Beach Poly HS) and freshman Juanita Webster (Redlands HS), who combined for five first place finishes, one second place and one third place result. Talalemotu was a three-time winner and started by dominating the discus throw, as her first place distance of 43.72 meters was far and away the best mark of the day. She added a first place toss of 51.68 meters to win the hammer and captured first place in the shot put at 12.78 meters.

The only event Talalemotu didn't win was the javelin, where her throw of 33.20 meters was bested by Vanguard University's Lauryn Cooper at 33.38 meters, with Webster coming in third place at 30.59 meters. Webster picked up her wins in the long jump (5.54 meters) and 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.07. Freshman Bria Palmer (J.W. North HS) finished in third place in the long jump at 5.05 meters, while freshman Lilian Ebanks (Valencia HS) ran the hurdles in 15.54 for third place.

Sophomore Erica Davis (Fountain Valley HS) placed first in the pole vault with a height of 3.30 meters, with sophomore Najia Hudspeth (Kennedy HS) turning in a first place time of 56.65 to win the 400 meters. In the triple jump, sophomore Michannai Wright (Paramount HS) won the event with a leap of 10.28 meters, with the Falcons winning both the 400-meter relay (48.15) and 1600-meter relay (4:00.59).

Freshman sprinter Dominique Billew (Mayfair HS) posted a second place time of 13.11 in the 100 meters, with sophomore Marylu Pulido (Whittier HS) finishing second in the 1500 meters (4:49.96), with sophomore Maria Orosco (Katella HS) taking third place in the 1500 meters (4:53.10) and 800 meters (2:23.88).
