A quartet of Cerritos College women's track and field athletes who have excelled on the the playing field are also excelling in the classroom. The quartet of sophomore sprinters Nylia Hudspeth (Kennedy HS) and Najia Hudspeth (Kennedy HS), along with sophomore thrower Jessica Tobias (Bell Gardens HS) and sophomore pole vaulter Erica Davis (Fountain Valley HS) have all been named to the Academic All-State team.

Jessica Tobias qualified for the state championships in the hammer The four have all qualified for the CCCAA State Championships this weekend at San Diego Mesa College, with Najia Hudspeth in four events, while Nylia Hudspeth will compete in three events. They all helped the Falcons win their fourth Southern California championship in the last five years, while the team is the defending state champions. Majoring in nursing, both Hudspeth sisters each have 3.72 GPA, while Davis has a 4.0 GPA while majoring in kinesiology. A double major in mathematics and education, Tobias has a 3.60 GPA.

A four-time Southern California champion, Najia Hudspeth won the 100 meters 11.64), set a school record in the 200 meters (23.67) and ran a leg of the 400-meter relay (46.24), as well as the 1600-meter relay team that set a new school record in a time of 3:45.71. Nylia also ran on both of the relay teams, and took second place in the 400 meters with a clocking of 55.79. As for Davis, she finished second in the pole vault (3.44 meters), with Tobias qualifying in the hammer after taking third place with a distance of 47.26 meters.
