In their first meet of the season, the Cerritos College women's track and field team is already rewriting their record book. Competing at the Mt. San Antonio Season Opener on Friday, the Falcons watch sophomore Destiny Talalemotu (Long Beach Millikan HS) set a new school record in the hammer, when she recorded a distance of 53.35 meters to easily win the event. She broke the old record of 50.54 meters, which was set in 2009 by Arianna Lugo.

Talalemotu, who already holds the school record in the shot put and was a two-time CCCAA State Champion in her freshman season (2014), spent the last two seasons competing in indoor track and field at Azusa Pacific University. She returned to Cerritos this season for her sophomore year in outdoor track and field. On the day, Talalemotu also won the shot put with a toss of 13.25 meters and finished fourth in the javelin at 31.72 meters.

Joining her in the top three finishers in the hammer were freshman Stephanie Marquez (Pius X), who took second place at 42.69 meters, and sophomore Jessica Tobias (Bell Gardens HS) with a third place distance of 40.04 meters. Sophomore Sarah Baker (Paramount HS) earned a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 33.32 meters, while Tobias was fourth at 26.70 meters. Freshmen teammates Suyan Carcedo (California HS) and Jaime Monaco (Long Beach Poly HS) came in sixth and seventh places with throws of 25.20 meters and 24.04 meters, respectively.

Winning in the 3000 meters was sophomore Marylu Pulido (Whittier HS), who turned in a time of 11:01.13, which was 19 seconds ahead of her closest competition. In relay events, Cerritos placed second in the 400-meter relay (50.04) and 1600-meter relay (3:51.58), while they won the 800-meter sprint medley in a time of 1:54.39, which barely edged the host Mounties.

In the high jump, freshman Juanita Webster (Redlands HS) earned first place with a height of 1.61 meters and earned the top spot over teammate Bria Palmer (J.W. North HS) because she cleared the height first. Sophomore Erica Davis (Fountain Valley HS) cleared 2.84 meters in the pole vault to come in first place, while Monaco was the only entry in the long jump and posted a distance of 4.43 meters.
