W. Track & Field: Team takes top two spots at SoCal Heptathlon Championships

Over the course of the two-day Southern California Heptathlon Championships, it was a two-person race between a pair of Cerritos College athletes. After the first four events on day one, freshman Juanita Webster (Redlands HS) held a 100-point lead over freshman teammate Lilian Ebanks (Valencia HS). After the first two events on the second day, Ebanks had taken an 64-point lead over Webster, with just the 800 meters to be held. Webster, who recorded the second most points in school history earlier in the season (5188), ran a spectacular 800 meters and earned 811 points with a time of 2:20.94. It was 124 points more than Ebanks and her time of 2:30.43, good for 687 points.

As a result, Webster won the Southern California championship with 5091 points, with Ebanks coming in second place with 5031 points. That point total by Ebanks breaks her personal best total of 4722 and moves her into third place on the school's top five list.

With the top six finishers qualifying for the CCCAA State Championships, the Falcon duo will be joined by freshman Giselle Burgos (El Rancho HS), who finished in fourth place with 3779 points. Cerritos had six entries in the SoCal Championships, and with a seventh and eighth place finish, the school amassed 26 points toward the Southern California Championships point total.

Both Webster and Ebanks made great strides toward their top two finishes with great showings in several events. On the first day, Webster accumulated 759 points with a high jump of 1.62 meters and added 807 points on the second day with a long jump of 5.86 meters, which is also fifth on the school's all-time list. Ebanks recorded a personal best height of 1.53 meters in the high jump for 655 points, and moved into fourth place on the school's long jump list with a leap of 5.93 meters, which earned her 828 points.

Burgos excelled in the 200 meters with a time of 27.85, good for 643 points. while her 800 meter time of 2:24.54 produced 763 points.
