Some of the best marks in school history were turned in at the South Coast Conference Prelims in Tuesday at Long Beach City College. The Falcons, who lead in the team scoring with 73.5 points, have qualified 30 entries into the South Coast Conference Championships, which will be hald at LBCC on Friday.

Four of the events were finals, with Cerritos winning two of them, which contributed to their team points. In the pole vault, sophomore Erica Davis (Fountain Valley HS) cleared a personal best 3.61 meters to win the conference championship. The height is also the second best on the school's top five list. Her height also advances her to the Southern California Championships. Freshman Amanda Salgado (El Rancho HS) cleared a personal best 2.39 meters, which placed her sixth and also earned her the minimum qualifications to advance to the Southern California Prelims.

Also winning a conference championship was newcomer Miranda Valentin (Bellflower HS), who triple jumped 10.89 meters, with the Falcons posting the top four finishers. Valentin, who was a member of the Cerritos women's basketball team, edged out teammate Michannai Wright (Paramount HS), who finished in second place at 10.44 meters.

In the javelin finals, the team finished in second through fourth place with sophomore Destiny Talalemotu (Long Beach Millikan HS) coming in second place at 37.53 meters. Placing third was sophomore Sarah Baker (Paramount HS) at 37.23 meters, with another newcomer from the basketball team, Ashley Flores (California HS) coming in fourth place at 35.10 meters.

Those turning in great marks in the prelims include sophomore Najia Hudspeth (Kennedy HS), who won the 100 meters and 200 meters. Her time of 11.80 is third on the school's top five list, with her 23.85 in the 200 meters just .01 second from tying the school record of 23.84 set by Ariana Wright in 2012. Talalemutu's discus throw of 49.77 improves on her personal best and keeps her second on the school's top five list.
