In one of their more competitive matches of the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team came up short in a non-conference match at Fullerton College on Wednesday, losing by a 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 19-25 score to drop their season record to 1-2. The Falcons will now enter the San Diego Mesa Tournament this weekend.

The match against the Hornets (2-0) marked the first of the year for freshman middle blocker Chelsea James (La Mirada HS), who added depth to the front line and shared the team lead with 11 kills, which included four kills in the first and third games of the night. She was joined by freshman outside hitter Susan Suski (Cerritos HS), who drilled home 11 kills, also led the team with 17 digs.

Cerritos was within striking distance in each of the matches, but couldn't pull ahead when they had the opportunity. Nine different Falcons checked in with at least one kill, with sophomore middle blocker Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS) posting six kills and added a pair of blocks. Sophomore Latia Peters (Hesperia HS) and freshman Stephanie Ortiz (Huntington Park College Ready Academy HS) each added four kills, with Ortiz contributing 13 digs in the loss. Freshman Ashley Castro (Santa Fe HS) worked well in the back row with 15 digs.
