Volleyball: Win over LA Trade-Tech snaps skid

The Cerritos College volleyball team snapped their seven-match losing streak on Friday when they recorded a 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 South Coast Conference win at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College in a South Coast Conference match. The win improved the Falcons overall record to 2-8, while they are now 1-2 in SCC play. They will now have their hands full, as they host 16th ranked El Camino College (8-3, 3-0) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Gahr HS.

In the win over the Lady Techsters, sophomore outside hitter Latia Peters (Hesperia HS) led the team with 15 kills, which included six in the second game. Freshman outside hitter Susan Suski (Cerritos HS) was equally effective at the net, as she drilled home 11 kills and added six digs in the back row.

The Falcon serve was an especially effective scoring method, as they posted 14 service aces, with freshman Yazmin Rios (Paramount HS) leading the way with five aces. Rios added a season-high five kills and contributed nine digs in the back row. On the night, 10 different players posted at least one kill, with sophomore middle blocker Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS) finishing with six kills, two aces and two blocks. 

Freshman setter Aniga Aiono (Lakewood HS) directed the offense with 23 assists, while she was relieved by freshman Marissa Sunio (Cerritos HS) in the third set and saw her post 11 assists. The trio of sophomore Brittany Buffington (Mayfair HS), along with freshmen Laura Bogarin (Firebaugh HS) and Stephanie Ortiz (Huntington Park College Ready Academy HS) all added three kills, with freshman Ashley Castro (Santa Fe HS) leading the back row with 15 digs.
