Facing the #16-ranked team in the state, the Cerritos College volleyball team was no match for the height and depth that El Camino College presented in their South Coast Conference match at Gahr High School on Wednesday. The Falcons (2-9, 1-3) had difficulty at the net as much as they did against the net facing the Warriors (10-3, 4-0), who posted a 12-25, 16-25, 20-25 score. Cerritos will now play their next four matches on the road and will start that with a 6:00 p.m. match at East Los Angeles College on Friday.

In the first game, the Falcons did hold a 7-6 lead but surrendered nine straight points to the Warriors, who relied in the size of Nicole Echeverri and Nigeria Owens, who combined for 21 kills on the night. By contrast, freshman Susan Suski (Cerritos HS) paced Cerritos with five kills, while the team finished with a negative attack percentage on the night.

Cerritos did stay close for the first half of the second set and trailed only 14-12, but saw El Camino score nine of the next 10 points to pull away. Trailing 17-6 in the third set, the Falcons did rally for eight straight points, but didn't have enough to come up with a win.

Sophomores Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS) and Latia Peters (Hesperia HS) each added three kills, while freshman Aniga Aiono (Lakewood HS) was credited with eight assists from her setter position. For El Camino, Sukealena Tafao directed her team with 12 assists and added 10 digs, while Brittney Kroenberger posted three blocks and had three kills.
