Playing a much-improved Pasadena City squad, the Cerritos College softball team dropped a 3-2 decision in a South Coast Conference crossover game on Tuesday. The loss to the Lancers (6-5) was the first for the Falcons (8-3) since a 5-3 decision during the 2007 season, snapped a stretch of 29 straight wins. The team will host Rio Hondo College at 3:00 p.m. on THursday in another conference crossover game.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Cerritos made a run at extending the game. Freshmen Rain Vega (La Mirada HS) and Lesley Briseno (Cypress HS) led off the stanza by drawing walks against starting pitcher Angel Wintercorn. Pica Madrid came on in relief and freshman Desiree Flores (Downey HS) came in to pinch-hit for sophomore Kristen Voller (Norco HS), who started the first three innings in the circle.

Flores was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases for the Falcons with no outs. Sophomore Jissel Caballero (Warren HS) then flew out to center field, which brought home a run, but Briseno was thrown out at third base trying to advance on the sacrifice fly. Lancer center fielder Angel Urbina threw a strike to third baseman Brittany Ching, who tagged out Briseno for the second out. Sophomore Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) grounded out to end the game.

Pasadena City broke a 1-1 tie with single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings against freshman relief pitcher Carly Gutierrez (Santa Fe HS), who took the loss.
