With her two home runs on the day, Cerritos College sophomore shortstop Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS) has regained the state lead in home runs with 15. Brown, with a solo home run in the first inning and a grand slam in the second inning, went on to drive in seven runs in the Falcons 21-0, 5-inning win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday. Cerritos (23-10, 5-3) will travel to Long Beach City College on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference South Division game.
The Falcons posted 12 runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second inning. They finished with a season-high 22 hits, with the top four batters in the lineup accounting for 13 hits and 18 RBI. Along the way, sophomore Jissel Caballero (Warren HS) played three positions on the day, which meant she has played all nine positions this season, becoming the first player in school history to accomplish the feat. She opened the game as the starting pitcher, moved to center first for the third inning and completed the accomplishment by catching for one out in the fourth inning. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI.
In that first inning, Cerritos scored their 12 runs on nine hits and received home runs from both Brown and freshman catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS), who finished off the scoring in the stanza with a two-run blast. Also in the inning, Caballero and sophomore outfielder Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) added two-run doubles.
Brown highlighted the second inning with her opposite field grand slam, while was followed by Lopez hitting her second home run of the day. Olivas ended the day with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI. Every batter in the lineup collected at least one hit, with Caballero, sophomore Kristen Voller (Norco HS) and freshman Carly Gutierrez (Santa Fe HS) limiting LA Harbor to just one hit on the day.
