Back on their winning ways, the Cerritos College softball team picked up another crucial win on Monday, as they defeated host Riverside City College, 9-4 in a non-conference game. The Falcons, who improved to 21-9 after their fourth win in a row, resume South Coast Conference South Division play with a 3:00 p.m. game at ECC Compton Center on Tuesday.

Sophomore Jissel Caballero (Warren HS) was key to the win, as she tossed a complete game to improve to 8-1 on the year, while also driving in four runs. She got a three-run first inning going with a one-out base hit, followed by a single from sophomore shortstop Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS). Freshman catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) then lined a single on the first pitch to give the Falcons an early lead. The bases were loaded for sophomore first baseman Kristen Voller (Norco HS) after freshman Carly Gutierrez (Santa Fe HS) drew a walk.

Voller drove in the team's second run with a base hit, while freshman second baseman Emma Wolff (Mayfair HS) drew a four-pitch walk to force in the third run.

Cerritos matched their run output in the second inning, thanks to a three-run home run from Caballero, her seventh of the year. Freshman outfielder Andrea Villalta (Norwalk HS) and sophomore outfielder Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) each drew walks to start the inning, which set the table for Caballero.

In the circle, Caballero breezed through the game except for the fifth inning, where she allowed three runs, with two of them unearned due to errors. She finished allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four.

Brown added to her state-leading home run total, with a solo blast in the fourth inning, her 12th on the season. She now ranks second in the state with 52 RBI.

Caballero finished the game going 3-for-4 with a walk and four RBI, while Brown and Lopez had a pair of hits. Voller drew three of the team's eight walks, which adds to the Falcons state-leading 154 free passes this season.
