Locked in a tight game with ECC Compton Center on Tuesday, the Cerritos College softball team put nine runs on the board in the sixth inning and went on for an 11-1, six-inning win. The South Coast Conference South Division victory was the fifth in a row for the Falcons (22-9, 4-2), who travel to first place El Camino College on Thursday for a crucial 3:00 p.m. game.

In the win over Compton (9-19, 2-4), Cerritos had runners at first and second with two outs, thanks to an error and single by freshman second baseman Emma Wolff (Mayfair HS). Sophomore outfielder Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) started the rally with an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from sophomore third baseman Jissel Caballero (Warren HS). Sophomore shortstop Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS) added to her state-leading home run total with a two-run blast, her 13th of the year.

The inning continued with freshman catcher reaching on a single, which was followed by freshman pitcher Carly Gutierrez (Santa Fe HS) hitting a two-run home run. A throwing error on a ground ball by freshman outfielder Lesley Briseno (Cypress HS) set up an RBI double by sophomore catcher Rain Vega (La Mirada HS), with Wolff ending the nine-run rally with an RBI single. All nine runs in the inning were unearned.

Gutierrez picked up the win in the circle and allowed just five hits and struck out five on the day. She was one of four players with two hits on the day and was joined by freshman first baseman Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS), Vega and Wolff.
