After suffering a tough loss two days prior, the Cerritos College softball team responded with a 9-3 South Coast Conference crossover win over host East Los Angeles College on Thursday. The Falcons (18-9) will now host a pair of non-conference games on Saturday, as Fulerton College (11:00 a.m.) and College of the Canyons (2:00 p.m.) visit Nancy Kelly Field.

Cerritos took a 5-0 lead after the first three innings and rode the arm of sophomore pitcher Kristen Voller (Norco HS), who tossed a complete game. She limited the Huskies (16-16) to just one run on six hits through the first six innings until they put a pair of runs on the board in the seventh inning.

At the plate, the Falcons scored once in the first inning and then added four more in the top of the third inning. Sophomore outfielder Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) led off with a double, followed by a single from sophomore shortstop Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS), who also stole second base. Freshman catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) drove in her second run of the game with a base hit, while the big hit was a two-run, two-out base hit by freshman outfielder Andrea Villalta (Norwalk HS).

Leading 6-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Cerritos capitalized on an East LA error, which plated a pair of runs, with Brown (4-for-4) capping off the scoring with an RBI double. Olivas (three runs), Lopez (two RBI) and freshman third baseman Rain Vega (La Mirada HS) all had two hits on the day.
