Trailing 1-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning, the Cerritos College softball team scored the final five runs of the game for a 5-1 South Coast Conference South Division win over host Long Beach City College on Thursday. The win moves the Falcons (24-10, 6-3) into second place in divisional play and it was the team's seventh win in the last eight games. They will play a non-conference game at Cypress College at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers (34-0) are currently ranked #1 in the state.

In the fifth inning, sophomore outfielder Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) led off with a single against relief pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos. She stole second base and then moved to third on an error by Vikings first baseman Julia Juarez off the bat of sophomore pitcher Jissel Caballero (Warren HS). With one out, freshman catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) laced a double that plated both runners to give Cerritos a 2-1 lead.

The Falcons added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning. Freshmen Lesley Briseno (Cypress HS) and Rain Vega (La Mirada HS) got the stanza started with consecutive walks and were then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by freshman second baseman Emma Wolff (Mayfair HS). Olivas then sent a fly ball to centerfield, where Cynthia Ruiz misplayed the ball, which allowed both runners to score. Caballero capped off the scoring with an RBI double.

While in the circle, Caballero limited LBCC to one run on five hits to collect her ninth win of the season. She was also one of five players to collect a hit on the day.
