After the first inning in their non-conference game at Santiago Canyon College on Monday, the Cerritos College softball team held a 2-0 lead. That advantage didn't last long, as the Hawks scored the next 10 runs to post a 10-2, 5-inning decision. The Falcons (10-6), who have dropped five of their last eight games, will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference game on Tuesday.

In the top of the first inning, sophomore third baseman Jissel Caballero (Warren HS) singled with one out. After moving to second base on a wild pitch, Caballero came home on a double by sophomore second baseman Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS). Sophomore Erica Guzman (Enoch HS/William Jessup University) then grounded to shortstop Amber Reinke, who tried to cut down Brown at third base. Her throw went wide, which allowed Brown to score and Guzman to move to second base. The Falcons weren't able to add to that early lead.

The Hawks (11-3-1) scored five times in the bottom of the second inning off starting pitcher Kristen Voller (Norco HS), which was also aided by a Cerritos error. Voller (5-5) was replaced by Caballero in the third inning, with Santiago Canyon checking in with five more runs, which ended the game due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Sophomore outfielder Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) reached base twice on walks twice in the game, with the Falcons getting hits from five different players.
