Entering the start of the 2012 season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team were ranked 5th in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), while their first oppnent - San Francisco City College - is ranked #6. Despite facing another top team in the country, Falcon head coach Ruben Gonzalez was not overly pleased with his team's 2-2 draw against the Rams. The squad will have another chance to show an improvment that Gonzalez can be pleased with, as they travel to Foothill College on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. contest.

Things started off very well in the Falcons (0-0-1) favor, as freshman forward Jasmine Cornejo (Artesia HS) was able to head in a pass by freshman forward Claudia Ibarra (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) in the sixth minute of the game. Ibarra was able to redirect a ball in the six-yard box and quickly set the ball to Cornejo, who finished for the the team's first score of the season.

The early dominance continued, as Cerritos took a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute as freshman forward Jazmin Aguas (San Pascual HS) took an initial shot from about 30 yards out that was punched away by the Rams goalkeeper. But Cornejo was in the right spot and headed home the rebound. In the first 45 minutes, the Falcons recorded six shots, while limiting San Francisco City to just two.

But before halftime, the game would be tied, as the Rams picked up goals in the 37th and 40th minutes against freshman goalie Maria Santoyo (Universidad de Guadalajara HS). Even with the game tied, the Falcons continued to turn on the heat in the second half, and put 12 shots on goal, but could not get the go-ahead goal.
