W. Soccer: Falcons record 2-0 shutout win

Continuing their road trip to start the season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team remained unbeaten, as they recorded a 2-0 win at  Los Angeles Pierce College on Friday. The Falcons (4-0-1), ranked #5 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, will now travel to face Ventura for a 5:00 p.m. game on Sunday.

After a scoreless first half, Cerritos finally got on the board in the 48th minute, as sophomore midfielder Lauren Nanez (La Mirada HS) took on a defensive player and used her skills to take her to the line. She then cut back and crossed it on the ground to the center where freshman midfielder Cristal Yantuche (Lakewood HS) was able to put it into the back of the net. It would be enough offense for freshman goalkeeper Maria Santoyo (Universidad de Guadalajara HS), who posted her first shutout of the season by turning away 12 shots on the day.

The Falcons picked up an inusrance goal in the 65th minute, with Nanez finishing off a great play for the goal. Freshman forward Claudia Ibarra (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) sent a beautiful corner kick into the box, where Nanez was able to head the ball into the back of the net for a great goal. Cerritos continued the pressure on Brahman goalkeeper April Russell, but she turned the Falcons away and ended the game with 19 saves.
