It's rare for the Cerritos College women's soccer team to play from behind. But that's what they had to do in their non-conference game at Ventura College on Sunday. The Falcons, ranked #5 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, were down 1-0 after the first 15 minutes when Breanna Naranjo took two touches from outside the 18-yard box to put the ball past freshman goalkeeper Maria Santoyo (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) for a 1-0 Pirates lead.

But that advantage lasted for just two minutes, as freshman defender Alyssa Cabral (Bishop Amat HS) sent a beautiful ball to freshman midfielder Jazmin Aguas (San Pasqual HS), who was open in the 18-yard box. Facing Ventura goalkeeper Katelyn White in a one-on-one situation, Aguas was able to tie the game with a beautiful shot. The game would not stay tied for long, as in the 25th minute Cerritos took the lead and wouldn't relinquish it the rest of the way. Aguas started a rush up the field, where she sent a pass to freshman forward Claudia Ibarra (Universidad de Guadalajara HS), who scored on a one-timer to give the Falcons the lead for good. Santoyo helped secure the win by making 10 saves on the day, while White finished with nine stops.
The Falcons will now take their 5-0-1 pre-season record into South Coast Conference play, where they play their first four games on the road. Cerritos will enjoy a week off before travelling to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
