Continuing their strong play, and offensive output, the Cerritos College women's soccer team recorded a 4-0 South Coast Conference win against visiting El Camino College on Friday. The shutout victory improves the first place Falcons record to 13-1-2 overall and 8-1-1 in conference play, while the Warriors dropped to 5-9-2 and 4-5-1. With just four games remaining in the conference season, the team will now host East Los Angeles at 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday.

Offensively, Cerritos took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when freshman Claudia Ibarra (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) crossed a pass into the box, where it bounced to freshman Jasmine Cornejo (Artesia HS), and she tapped it into the goal past El Camino goalie Alyssa Heely. Cerritos kept the pressure on Heely, while freshman Maria Santoyo (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) was up to the task on the other side of the field, making a pair first half saves to keep the Falcons on top.

In the 29th minute, she made a diving save on a hard shot by Becca Maier, and then turned her away again in the 33rd minute when Maier sent a header toward the net off a corner kick.

But prior to halftime, the Falcons struck again, as sophomore Victoria Carter (La Mirada HS) dribbled the ball in and lofted a shot that went through the hands of Heely and into the upper corner of the net. Cerritos would chase Heely in the 63rd minute after two goals in two minutes gave them a 4-0 advantage.

Freshman Jazmin Aguas (San Pasqual HS) sent a corner kick at the net where sophomore Lauren Nanez (La Mirada HS) headed a shot that was saved by Heely. But freshman Alyssa Cabral (Bishop Amat HS) was there to put the rebound into the net in the 60th minute. Just two minutes after that, Carter stole a bad clearing pass and fed Nanez, who scored into an open net.
