From the outset of the game, the Cerritos College women's soccer team not only controlled the ball and scoring, they had several early chances to get out to an even bigger lead. But a goal in the first five minutes and last five minutes of the first half proved to be more than enough offense, as the Falcons recorded a 4-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Pasadena City College on Friday afternoon. Cerritos, ranked #3 in the state and #2 in Southern California in the most recent CCCAA/CCCSIA poll, received a pair of goals from sophomore Gaby Zamarripa (Artesia HS), and improved to 10-1-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the SCC. The team will get a test on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. when they host Mt. San Antonio, who is ranked #6 in the state and #4 in Southern California.

Just 5:47 into the game, sophomore Karina Sandoval (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) scored on a direct kick against Lancer (7-4-2, 3-2-2) goalkeeper Tatiana Sanchez, as her shot went under the crossbar for her third goal of the season. It could have easily been a 5-0 lead by the end of the first half, but an initial shot by freshman Claudia Lopez (Downey HS) and rebound attempt by freshman Jazmin Aguas (San Pasqual HS) both were stopped in the 14th minute. Aguas also hit the crossbar in the 34th minute, while Zamarripa saw her low, hard shot stopped by Sanchez (eight saves) in the 39th minute.

But before the end of the first half, Zamarripa would find the back of the net, as she dribbled past Hallie White and found herself alone against Sanchez, where she was able to score under to diving attempt.

Matching their start to the second half, the Falcons made it a 3-0 game in the 49th minute when Lopez received a leading pass from Aguas and scored off the hands of Sanchez, who was unable to leap high enough to knock the shot away. Pasadena City did receive a chip shot goal by Vanessa Capra in the 53rd minute that freshman goalkeeper Maria Santoyo (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) had no chance at stopping.

Cerritos closed out the scoring in the 68th minute when Zamarripa was able to get a shot past a diving Sanchez after receiving a pass from freshman Claudia Ibarra (Universidad de Guadalajara HS). By the end of the game, the Falcons had out-shot the Lancers, 17-9.
