Although their late-season loss dropped them in the power rankings, the Cerritos College women's soccer team received the #3 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons (16-2-2), who won their seventh straight South Coast Conference, will host #14-seeded Santa Barbara City College at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday (note the time change). The winner will advance to the second round next Wednesday for a 2:00 p.m. game against either #6 Cypress College or #11-seeded Mt. San Antonio College.

Prior to their 4-2 loss to Pasadena City College in their second-to-last game of the regular season, Cerritos was ranked #1 in Southern California, but dropped down to #3 after the loss, which opened the door for Santiago Canyon College to move into the #1 spot, with College of the Canyons seeded #2 for the playoffs.

The Vaqueros (11-3-4) finished in second place in the Western State North Conference and started the pre-season 4-2-2, but went 7-1-2 in conference play. Their only loss in conference was a 4-1 decision against eventual champion, #7-seeded Ventura College. As for the Falcons, they opened the season 9-0-1 and also had a seven-game winning streak before their loss to the Lancers.

Cerritos is led by sophomore Lauren Nanez (La Mirada HS), who has 15 goals and 14 assists, while freshman Claudia Ibarra (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) is second on the team with 12 goals and 12 assists. The duo of freshmen Jasmine Cornejo (Artesia HS) and Claudia Lopez (Downey HS) have added nine goals each, with freshman goalkeeper Maria Santoyo (Universidad de Guadlajara HS) posting seven shutouts on the season.

Santa Barbara looks to Brandie Harris (14 goals) and Sandy Grimaldo (13 goals) for their offense, while the duo have combined for seven assists. Brianna Robinson has been their primary goalkeeper and opened the season by posting four shutouts in a row.
