On Friday afternoon, the Cerritos College women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season, as they dropped a 6-3 score against NCAA DIII Whittier College. The Falcons (7-1) return to playing community colleges on Tuesday, as they host Mt. San Antonio College at 2:00 p.m. in a South Coast Conference match.

The team found themselves down in the team scoring after the Poets (1-0) won two of the three doubles matches. The tandem of freshman Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Elizabeth Aceves (Downey HS) earned the lone win.

Singles was a little tough for Cerritos, as they lost four of the six matches. At the top of the ladder, sophomore Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) was defeated in straight sets, while freshman Tiffany Sanchez (Long Beach Wilson HS) moved into the #2 position and was forced to retire due to an injury. She had lost the first set, 6-2 and was trailing 1-0 in the second set when the match ended. Freshman Valentina Polonyi (Altisa, Hungary) extended her match against Kindell Yeung before losing in the tie-breaker, 4-6 6-2, 6-10.

Pastor picked up a straight set win (6-3, 6-1) in the #5 match, while Aceves remained undefeated on the season with her 6-2, 6-1 victory.
