W. Tennis: Win over Fresno City eighth in a row

In their first of two non-conference matches in Fresno, the Cerritos College women's tennis team handed the host Rams their first loss of the season on Friday. Both teams are ranked #1 in their respective regions. The win was the eighth in a row for the Falcons (15-1), who will take on Reedley College at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

After securing two team points in doubles play, Cerritos received strong play at the bottom half of the singles ladder to lock down the win. Freshman Valentina Polonyi (Altisa, Hungary) earned a solid 6-1, 6-3 win in the #3 position, with sophomore Jovana Milosevic (High School of Business and Law, Serbia/Hillsborough, FL CC) securing a quick 6-1, 6-1 win. Freshman Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) improved to 15-0 in single play with her 6-1, 6-0 victory in the #6 position.

Also winning to stay undefeated in singles play was sophomore Anastasia Khomyachenko (Serbia, Russia), who was extended to a tie-breaker in the #2 match. Khomyachenko dropped the first match to Raquel Gonzales, 1-6, but responded with a 6-2 win in the second set and won the tie-breaker, 7-5. At the top of the ladder, sophomore Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) was upended 5-7, 6-1, 8-10 against Milah Ryland, and teamed with Khomyachenko for an 8-5 doubles victory.

The doubles tandem of Milosevic and Pastor are now 10-1 together once they finished off Bianca Muniz and Jana Misirili, 8-3.
