Facing Mt. San Antonio College in a South Coast Conference match on Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team escaped with a close 5-4 win. The victory improved the Falcons, ranked #1 in Southern California, season record to 17-1 overall and they are now 9-0 in conference. The team will travel to El Camino College on Thursday for a 2:00 p.m. conference match.

In their first meeting earlier in the year, the Mounties had their #2 and #3 singles players, as well as their #4 and #5 players in other positions on the ladder, while the Falcons moved sophomore Anastasia Khomyachenko (Sochi, Russia) up to #1 for this match to help with her Southern California ranking. The result of the flipping players helped Mt. SAC earn an extra win in singles play.

But where it counted, Cerritos posted wins at the top of the singles ladder. Khomyachenko remained undefeated on the season when she led Mt. SAC's Connie Aranguiz, 5-3 before she was forced to retire. Sophomore Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) earned a 6-3, 6-4 win in the #2 position, with the Falcons also winning at #4 and #6. Freshman Valentina Polonyi (Altisa, Hungary) easily defeated Jessica Ulloa, 6-0, 6-1, with freshman Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) improving to 17-0 on the team with her come-from-behind 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win, which clinched the team victory.

The team struggled in doubles action and trailed, 2-1 in the team score heading into singles play. Pastor and sophomore Jovana Milosevic (High School of Business and Law, Serbia/Hillsborough, FL CC) secured the team's lone double victory with an 8-4 victory.
