W. Tennis: Victory sets up first place showdown

With their 9-0 South Coast Conference win over Rio Hondo College on Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team is now gearing up for their most important match of the year. The Falcons (11-1, 4-0) will be hosting College of the Desert (4-0, 4-0) at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in a match between the final two undefeated teams in the conference. The Roadrunners have only played conference matches this season.

In the win over the Rio Hondo Roadrunners, Cerritos picked up straight set wins in all six singles matches, with four of them losing just one game and another sweeping. At the bottom of the ladder, Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) remained undefeated with her 6-0, 6-0 victory. As for freshman Tiffany Sanchez (Long Beach Wilson HS), she had no trouble in her 6-1, 6-0 win in the #3 position, while the duo of freshman Valentina Polonyi (Altisa, Hungary) and sophomore Jovana Milosevic (High School of Business and Law, Serbia/Hillborough, FL CC) both recorded 6-0, 6-1 wins.

Sophomore singles players Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) and Anastasia Khomyachenko (Sochi, Russia) continued to play well with their straight set wins. The two also teamed up for an 8-4 doubles win in the #1 position.

Polonyi and Sanchez recorded an 8-1 doubles win, with Milosevic and Pastor earned an 8-3 win and are now 6-1 as a team.
