The Cerritos College softball team opened their 2016 season by introducing the long ball against host Saddleback College on Wednesday. Ranked #10 in the state to start the season, the Falcons (1-0) defeated the Gauchos, 8-2, ranked #9 in Southern California, which included a three-run home run in the first inning to jump-start the game. The team will host Riverside City College at 2:30 p.m. on Friday in their home opener.

Giving the team their 3-0 lead in the first inning was sophomore Jezeree Misaalefua (Carson HS/Long Beach City College). She finished the game going 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBI, which also included RBI singles in the third and fifth innings.

The Falcons collected 13 hits on the day, which was enough for sophomore starting pitcher Jenny Navarro (Warren HS), who earned the win with four innings of work. She allowed two runs (both unearned) on two hits. Freshman Kristen Voller (Norco HS) came on to toss the final three innings.
