Through the first nine innings of their South Coast Conference softball game, both Cerritos College and Mt. San Antonio College were hoping for one chance to break a scoreless tie. With sole possession of first place in the South Coast Conference on the line, it was a pair of fielding errors by the Falcons (18-6, 8-2) in the bottom of the 10th inning that led to a 1-0 loss. The team will now host ECC Compton Center at Nancy Kelly Field at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

In the top of the ninth inning, it looked as though Cerritos would be the first to push a run across the plate. Sophomore third baseman Jenny Navarro (Warren HS) led off with a double, but was cut down at third base on a fielder's choice by sophomore outfielder Mackenzie Kutzke (Los Alamitos HS/University of Montana). That would be the last scoring opportunity for the Falcons.

The Mounties opened the bottom of the 10th inning by taking advantage of an error by sophomore shortstop Camille Manzo (La Harba HS/Sterling (KS) University), as Kayla Sok stole second base after starting the inning. The next batter, Anise Avalos grounded to Navarro, whose error allowed Sok to move to third base. After an out was recorded and runners were at second and third, Aimee Rodriguez ended the game on a bunt, with the throw to the plate too late to cut down Sok.

Freshman pitcher Kristen Voller (Norco HS) did a fine job in the circle and allowed just five hits and struck out four batters in taking the loss. At the plate, Cerritos collected just two hits.
