The top half of the Cerritos College women's tennis ladder won two of three matches against Orange Coast College in their non-conference match on Thursday. Those turned out to be the only two victories for the Falcons (0-2), who were defeated by the Pirates, 7-2. Cerritos will now play three matches at Bakersfield College over the weekend. They will take on College of the Sequoias at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by matches against Antelope Valley College (9:00 a.m.) and the host Renegades (6:00 p.m.) on Saturday.

Freshman Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) won a convincing 6-1, 6-2 match against Nicole Pham in the #1 singles position, with sophomore Cyd Dionson (Western HS) fighting back for a three-set victory over Michelle Cyrus in the #3 spot, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. But the bottom half of the Orange Coast ladder was too tough for the Falcons, who were swept, which meant all three doubles teams would have to win in order to pull out the team victory.

The duo of freshmen Jessica Alcayde (Cabrillo HS) and sophomore Patricia Espinosa (El Rancho HS) led, 5-2 in the #3 doubles match. But the OCC pair of Mai Hashimoto and Kitty Trinh won the next six games to pull out the victory.
