Heading into their doubles matches with defending state champion Ventura College on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team was in position to pull off a big win. The Falcons swept their six singles matches with the Pirates and finished off their biggest win in school history by capturing two of the three doubles matches for a 5-4 non-conference win. Cerritos (4-3) will now travel to College of the Desert on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match.

In doubles play, the Falcons looked to the bottom two pairings to finish off the upset, as freshman Natali Perez (Lakewood HS) and sophomore Cyd Dionson (Western HS) easily won, 8-1. The same held true for sophomore Patricia Espinosa (El Rancho HS/Hope International UNiversity) and freshman Jessica Alcayde (Cabrillo HS), who won, 8-2.

Only one player returned from the state championship Pirate team, but the young Falcons were able to compete due to their steady improvement throughout the season.

In singles play, freshman Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) registered a 6-0, 7-5 win in the #2 position, while Dionson finished off Laura Varela quickly, 6-0, 6-1 at #4. In the #5 position, Perez earned a win when Suzanne St. Clair had to retire due to injury in the first set.
