Softball: Falcons honored with post-season awards

The Cerritos College softball team earned a share of the South Coast Conference, which translated into six players garnering all-conference honors. In addition, a trio of players were selected to the All-Southern California team. The Falcons (30-10) will be entering the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Saturday as the #10-seeded team and will be traveling to face #7-seeded Riverside City College.

Earning All-Southern California honors, as well as 1st Team All-SCC for the second year in a row is third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS). She is joined on the All-Southern California and 1st Team All-SCC teams by sophomore pitcher/designated player Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) and freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS). Ramirez was named 2nd Team all-conference her freshman season. Also earning 1st Team all-conference honors is sophomore first baseman Haley Whitney (Warren HS), while sophomore outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) and sophomore shortstop Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) were named to the 2nd Team. It was the second season Hernandez earned post-season accolades. Sophomore outfielder Danah Vasquez (Santa Fe HS) rounds out the all-conference teams by being named honorable mention.

Entering the playoffs, Mejia is one of four starters hitting over .400 and has six home runs and 42 RBI to go along with her .423 batting average. She has only struck out once all season and has drawn 23 walks. Perruccio is hitting at a team-leading .443 clip and also leads the state with 44 stolen bases, while Ramirez is 17-8 in the circle and is hitting .409 on the year. Whitney is hitting at a .440 clip and leads the team with a .988 fielding percentage.

The power-hitting Olivas leads the team with seven home runs and is second with 37 RBI to go along with her .325 batting average. Hernandez is hitting .321 with four triples, three home runs, 28 RBI, 11 stolen bases and three outfield assists, with Vasquez is hitting .330 with nine stolen bases.
