The Cerritos College softball team maintained their hold on first place in the South Coast Conference with a 5-0 win over host El Camino College on Tuesday. The Falcons (19-7) will now travel to Los Angeles Harbor College on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m. conference game.

Single runs in the second, third and fourth innings game Cerritos a 3-0 lead that would be enough run support for sophomore pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS), who tossed a five-hitter.

In the second inning, sophomore second baseman Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) and sophomore outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) slapped out consecutive singles. The two advanced a base on a passed ball and Olivas came home on a single by freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS). Ramirez drove in sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) with the second run of the game after Mejia singled and moved to second base on a fielding error.

Hernandez led off the fourth inning with a triple and scored on a double from freshman second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS). Cerritos closed out the scoring in the seventh inning when freshman pinch-runner Roxanna Jensen (Havre, MT) scored on a base hit by freshman catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS). Olivas followed with an RBI single to close out the scoring.

Hernandez led the Falcons with three hits, while Perruccio, Mejia, Jamie Ramirez and Olivas all had a pair of hits.
