The Cerritos College softball team exacted revenge on the only team to beat them in South Coast Conference play, as they handed visiting East Los Angeles College a 2-1 decision on Tuesday. The win at Nancy Kelly Field improved the team's record to 10-1 in SCC play, while their ninth win in a row puts them at 14-5 overall. The first place Falcons will now host ECC Compton Center (14-6, 4-5) at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The only runs required by Cerritos came in the form of a two-run home run from sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) in the bottom of the first inning. In fact, the Falcons collected four of their five hits on the day in the first stanza. Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) reached base on a fielder's choice and moved to second base on an error. That set up Mejia for her fourth home run of the year.

The Huskies (15-5, 7-3) threatened to score most of the game, but sophomore pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) and her defense held them at bay. She got pitcher Alashnee Medina to pop up with a runner on third base to end the third inning, while Medina hit into a line drive double play with a runner on third base to end the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, a single by Valerie Aguilar and an error by Olivas put a pair of runners on base. After the two were advanced on a sacrifice bunt Ramirez (6-5) walked Larae Gonzales to load the bases. But Stephanie Lopez grounded out to Olivas to end the threat. It was a 1-2-3 inning for Ramirez in the seventh inning to earn the complete game win.
