Trailing 6-5 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Cerritos College softball team scored six runs to post an 11-6 South Coast Conference win over ECC Compton Center on Tuesday. The win improved the Falcons record to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play. They will continue their three-game road trip on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. conference game at El Camino College.

Cerritos took a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but saw the Tartars (11-2, 3-2) post a six-run fourth inning to overtake them. The Falcons received run-scoring singles from sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) and freshman catcher Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS), with sophomore outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) adding a sacrifice fly in the first inning. They got to within 6-5 in the sixth inning when Mejia drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from sophomore first baseman Haley Whitney (Warren HS).

A two-run home run by Compton's Arielle Palafox, along with an error that allowed a run to score, highlighted the six runs in the fourth inning. But sophomore pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) allowed just two singles in the other innings and waited for her team's offense to come up with the big seventh inning.

Consecutive doubles from Hernandez and Petruccelli started the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6 before freshman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) drove in the eventual game-winning run with a base hit. Mejia added her third RBI of the game, while Jamie Ramirez helped her cause with an RBI double.
