The Cerritos College softball team strung together hits in six of seven at-bats, which led to five runs and an 8-0, 5-inning South Coast Conference win over Pasadena City College on Tuesday at Nancy Kelly Field. The win was the seventh in a row for the Falcons (12-5, 8-1), who sit atop the conference standings. On Thursday at 3:00 p.m., the team will travel to Long Beach City College for another conference game.

Leading 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Cerritos loaded the bases with one out on singles by sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS), sophomore first baseman Haley Whitney (Warren HS) and freshman catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS). That set the table for sophomore pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS), who doubled to center field off starting pitcher Casey Ramirez for a pair of runs. Sophomore outfielder Danah Vasquez (Santa Fe HS) followed with a run-scoring single, which chased Casey Ramirez. Breanna Rodriguez came in and walked freshman outfielder Crystal Monarrez (West Torrance HS) to load the bases. Freshman second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) closed out the game with a two-run double.

Jamie Ramirez (4-5) pitched the first four innings and allowed five hits and struck out two batters. Three of those hits came with two outs in the fourth inning and the Falcons leading, 3-0. But she struck out Karen Najera looking to end the threat. Sophomore Kat Flores (El Rancho HS) pitched the fifth inning and set down all three batters she faced.

Jamie Ramirez opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with an RBI double, while freshman outfielder Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) added a run-scoring single in the stanza, while Mejia led off the third inning with a solo home run to account for the third run.
