The Cerritos College softball team won three of their four games at the Bakersfield Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons (18-6), who are in the process of playing 11 road games over the course of nine days, opened with a 4-2 loss to Saddleback. But they responded with an 8-0 win in five innings over Santa Barbara City College, followed by a 2-1 win in eight innings over Riverside City College and concluded with a 12-6 victory against the host Renegades.

This week, the Falcons will travel to Santa Ana College on Monday for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game before playing a pair of South Coast Conference games on the road. They conclude the week with four games at the Ventura Tournament over the weekend.

Cerritos vs. Saddleback: With the game tied at 2-2 after the first three innings, the Gauchos took the lead for good on a two-run home run from Samantha Molina off losing pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS). The Falcons scored a single run in the second inning when sophomore outfielder Danah Vasquez (Santa Fe HS) drove in Ramirez, who reached base on a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) launched a solo home run in the third inning to account for the team's other run. Cerritos had a chance to score in the fifth inning, but freshman second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) was thrown out at the plate, while the Falcons stranded Jamie Ramirez at third base after her leadoff double in the sixth inning.

Cerritos vs. Santa Barbara City: Mejia and Jamie Ramirez each hit home runs in the five-run mercy rule win over the Vaqueros. Mejia his her solo shot in the first inning, while Jamie Ramirez, who also earned the win in the circle, hit a two-run home run in the third inning. She also added a two-run single in the fourth inning, while allowing three hits as a pitcher. Mejia finished with a pair of RBI, with freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) doubling in a run to go along with getting hit by a pitch and stealing a base. Vasquez also stole a pair of bases and had a hit.

Cerritos vs. Riverside: Squaring off against a team that defeated them early in the year, the Falcons and Tigers were scoreless through the first seven inning. As per the tournament rules, the game was moved to a California Tie-Breaker in the eighth inning, which means the person who made the last out in the previous inning opens the next inning on second base. Riverside was able to cash in on their runner, as Desiree Broussard doubled in pinch-runner Malia Campbell before Ramirez and the Falcons could record three outs. In the bottom of the eighth inning, an infield single by Perruccio advanced Monique Ramirez to third base, while Perruccio then stole second. Vasquez tied the game with a single before sophomore first baseman Haley Whitney (Warren HS) won the game with an RBI base hit.

Cerritos vs. Bakersfield: The Falcons pounded out 14 hits in their final game of the tournament, with Mejia hitting her third round-tripper of the weekend. The home run came in a five-run fifth inning, as Cerritos opened up a 7-1 lead for eventual winning pitcher Kat Flores (El Rancho HS). Freshman catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) added a three-run blast in the fifth inning, while Mejia finished with three RBI in the win. Perruccio collected two hits, three stolen bases and scored four times, with sophomore shortstop Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) driving in a pair of runs.
