The Cerritos College softball team put together a seventh-inning rally in their game against Santa Ana College on Friday, but it wasn't enough, as they dropped a 13-9 decision. The Falcons (3-4) scored six times in the bottom of the seventh, but that came after allowing five runs in the top of the stanza and were trailing 13-3 at the time. The team will now resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when they host Long Beach City College.

In the top of the first inning, the Dons (8-0) scored twice, while Cerritos responded with a pair of their own in the bottom of the inning. However, Santa Ana would go on to score 11 of the next 12 runs before the Falcons could put together their six-run seventh inning. In the bottom of the first, sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) doubled home a pair of runs to knot the game at 2-2. Mejia ended the inning stranded at third base, as the next three batters recorded outs.

Cerritos only collected three more hits off Santa Ana pitcher Frances Compoy until the seventh inning, and scored their third run of the game on the strength of two Don errors. In the seventh inning, sophomore Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) and freshman Joanna Peruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) led off with consecutive hits. Sophomore Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) then clubbed a three-run home run, her third round-tripper in the last two games. The inning continued when freshman pinch-hitter Stefani Gonzalez (El Rancho HS) drew a walk. With a pair of runners on base after sophomore Haley Whitney (Warren HS) doubled, Ramirez clubbed a three-run home run to get the game to within 13-9. But that's where the game would end.

Peruccio (two runs), Whitney and Ramirez (four RBI) each had a pair of hits for the Falcons in the loss. Emily Whitecavage led Santa Ana by going 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored, while Alyssa Yglesias had three hits.
