The Cerritos College softball team closed out their regular season on Tuesday with a 14-0, 5-inning South Coast Conference victory over Los Angeles Harbor College at Nancy Kelly Field. The Falcons (30-10, 18-3) locked down a share of the conference championship with the win. It marks the fifth conference title in the last seven years for Cerritos, who will find out on Saturday where they are seeded for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, which start May 3-4.
The game started off for the Falcons by taking a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Aggressive baserunning, combined with a pair of walks and hit batter in their first four trips to the plate got the offense started. After freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) and sophomore outfielder Danah Vasquez (Santa Fe HS) each drew walks and stole a base, sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) drove them both in with a double. Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) drove in a run with a base hit, while sophomore outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) brought in the fourth run of the inning on a fielder's choice.
Cerritos added a single run in the second inning before they blew the game open with an eight-run third inning with eight hits. Six different players drove in runs in that inning, including Olivas, who led off with a solo home run and then added an RBI double in her second trip to the plate in the stanza. Hernandez concluded the scoring in the inning with a two-run triple, with Perruccio, Vasquez, Mejia, and sophomore first baseman Haley Whitney (Warren HS), who had a two-run single, driving in runs.
Sophomore pitchers Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) and Kat Flores (El Rancho HS) limited the Seahawks to just four hits, with Ramirez only allowing one hit and earned the win to improve to 17-8.
After the game, head coach Kodee Murray (pictured) was presented with a cake and plaque for winning her 400th game with the Falcons. She earned her milestone win on March 23 with a 2-1, 8-inning victory over Riverside City College at the Bakersfield Tournament.
